Pakistan vs New Zealand 1st ODI Highlights – 9 Jan 2023

Kane Williamson: “We would have liked a few runs. Pakistan were clinical with the ball. There were glimpses where the game could have changed. Pakistan adapted better. There were a number of mid-partnerships, but no one going on… The toss had an impact, but I still feel there was enough assistance [with the ball] in the second half. We got some turn, and it skidded on with the new ball.”

Babar Azam: “We utilised the new ball, and fast bowlers executed the plan. All the credit goes to them. We knew it would be cold, and there would be dew… It was difficult for a new batter to come in. In the end, Rizwan was outstanding. It is good to have options as a captain, and I have a lot of them in terms of fast bowlers as well as spinners.”

Naseem Shah is the Player of the Match: “Good performance is fun only when the team wins. Everyone bowled well. It was reversing, and I just bowled to my strength.”

Pitch and weather: A fresh pitch is expected for the first ODI. It’s expected to be comfortable and sunny, a high of 19 degrees Celsius. No rain is expected.
