India vs West Indies 2nd ODI Highlights – 29th July 2023

In the first ODI the hosts batted first and scored 114 runs all out in just 23 overs. Shai Hope (c)† scored 43 runs, Alick Athanaze 22, Brandon King 17 and Shimron Hetmyer 11. After that no one else had crossed 10s. Kuldeep Yadav took four wickets in three overs, Ravindra Jadeja took three wickets in six overs. Hardik Pandya, Mukesh Kumar and Shardul Thakur took one wicket each.

In reply, the visitors chased down the 115 runs target in 22.5 overs with five wickets down. The opener of the Indian team Ishan Kishan † batted beautifully. He scored 51 runs, Shubman Gill once again failed to score good runs, he got out on 7. Another failure for Suryakumar Yadav who dismissed on 19. Hardik Pandya run out on 5, Shardul Thakur just avoided the duck, Ravindra Jadeja 16 not out and Rohit Sharma (c) 12 not out. Gudakesh Motie took two wickets, Jayden Seales and Yannic Cariah took one wicket each.

Pitch and weather: Both Rohit and Shai Hope were surprised by how the Barbados pitch played on Thursday. The seamers got encouraging carry while the spinners extracted turn – even with the new ball. If the same pitch is rolled out on Saturday, both teams could consider playing an extra spinner. The weather didn’t interrupt the first match, but the forecast for the second is gloomier, with 50% chance of rain.

India vs West Indies 2nd ODI Highlights 2023, Saturday 29-7. India tour of West Indies 2023, From Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados.

Shai Hope says

they’ll bowl first after seeing what happened in the last game and the conditions may assist bowlers at the start. Says they have to put the last game behind and understand what’s at stake with the series on the line. He says the pitch has been unpredictable of late but they’ll have to capitalise at the start and get a good game going. Batters have to find ways to score but bowlers will have to put India under pressure as they’ll bowl first. Powell and Drakes are out, Joseph and Carty come in.

Hardik Pandya says

they were looking to bat first. Wicket was up and down in the first half last game, so India wanted to see how they go here. Few questions need to be answered for us, so Virat and Rohit are resting. The way we bowled was impressive. The way we caught was great, it changed momentum. Our energy and finishing the game without losing as many wickets would have been great. Sanju and Axar come in.
