Bismah Maroof: “We were good at many times, but we did some mistakes as a bowling unit. A lot of learnings, and planning to be better in the next game. (Batting innings of Pakistan) The roles we have given to the girls, they played well. The role Ayesha had was crucial at the time.”
Harmanpreet Kaur: Pakistan batted well but at the end of the day, we wanted to win the game. Jemimah and Richa batted really well. All the players are keen to do well for the team. Whoever is getting an opportunity is pushing themselves. Good sign for us. (First game a win) Every match is important, no matter the opponent, but obviously, Pakistan is a big game. The crowd was good. (Before the next game?) We’ll love to have some time in the nets. We want to work on a few things.”
Rodrigues is the Player of the Match: “I actually don’t know what to say. I knew we had to build partnerships. I knew if we take it deep, we will win. Richa and I had a good partnership against Bangladesh too. This innings means a lot to me. Hadn’t been getting scores for a long time.” She thanks God and her family too before saying “we were just taking it over by over. If we knew we were there till the end, we would win. We knew they would bowl a bad ball eventually and we would capitalize. It was a difficult wicket but being set helped. This was a team effort. We will let the win sink in, but the tournament has just begun. We want to do simple things correctly. The results will take care of themselves.”
IND WMN vs PAK WMN Highlights today, Sunday 12-10-2023. 4th Match, Group 2, Newlands, Cape Town, ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023.
Maroof says: the wicket looks dry and she doesn’t expect it to change much so they want to put up a total first. “We have the confidence but conditions are different here,” she says when asked about the Asia Cup win.
Harmanpreet says: they would have batted first too because of the dry conditions and they’ve brought in Harleen Deol for Mandhana’s absence. She says Mandhana should be fine for the next game and she’s confident the depth in their batting will help them chase down here. Today Shikha, Anjali and Devika are missing.
Pitch: Much cooler and better conditions with some breeze here. There are really big “snake-like” marks on the pitch, Dane van Niekerk says and might be two-paced, adds Nasser Hussain.
Toss: PAK WMN chose to bat.
India Women team: Shafali, yastika, Jemimah, Kaur, Richa, Deol, Deepti, Vastrakar, Radha, Gyakwad, Renuka.
