The hosts played three matches so far in this ICC World Cup 2023 and won all of them. The Bangladesh team also played three matches but they got just one victory. The highest total of the Maharashtra Cricket stadium is 356/7 scored by India against England in 2017. 230/9 is the lowest total of this venue scored by New Zealand again in 2017. So it mean’s it should be the 100% batting friendly wicket in todays match.
Pitch and weather: Since 2017, teams batting first have posted 300-plus totals in three out of five ODIs in Pune, though this will be the first international at this venue in nine months. There was some drizzle on the eve of the match but the forecast is for sunshine on match day.
India vs Bangladesh Highlights 2023, ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 17th Match (D/N), Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune, Thursday 19-10-2023.
Najmul Hossain Shanto says it is a fresh wicket and the weather is nice, wants to put runs on the board. Shakib is missing because of the quad injury he suffered during the NZ game. Nasum Ahmed comes into the side in his place. Taskin Ahmed is not playing either, with Hasun Mahmud replacing him. Shanto adds the team has great memories against India and they want to continue that today.
Rohit Sharma says he would have bowled first anyway. Reckons bowling first has been working for them and he did not want to change it, wants to continue the momentum they have generated so far. No changes for India, meaning that Shardul Thakur continues ahead of R Ashwin and Mohammed Shami.

Post Match Presentation
Najmul Hossain Shanto:
India are always a very good side. they are capable of playing this way and they showed us today that they can play better cricket (than us). All teams (New Zealand, England and India) are very good. What I feel is we did not play our best game. Hopefully we can do that in the future. (On Shakib’s injury) He is recovering well. I am hoping he can be fit for the next match. Tanzid batted really well and all the fast bowlers bowled pretty well. But we did not finish well (with the bat). If Tanzid and Litton batted longer, could have been a different ballgame. Hopefully in the next game, our batters can take responsibility.
It was a good win. Something that we were looking forward to. We did not start well but we pulled it back well in the middle stages and at the back end as well. (On the bowling and the fielding) The last three games we have played, our fielding has been superb. We continued that today. It is something that is in your control. You try and put in as much effort as you can. Bowlers were smart enough to understand what sort of lines and lengths were needed. (On Jadeja) He was brilliant with the ball and took a brilliant catch.
But a hundred is a hundred – you cannot beat that. (On the fielding medals players receive after each game) We have something going on in the group. Lifts everyone up. Guys who end up with the most medals, there is something special for them. (On Pandya) He pulled up a bit sore. There is no major damage, that is good for us. But obviously with an injury like that, we have to assess every day and we will do whatever is required. (Game against NZ) Every game is a big game. (On the support) All of us in the squad have gone through such pressure – crowds coming in big numbers. It is special for us. The crowd has not disappointed us and I am pretty sure it is going to get bigger and louder moving forward.
Virat Kohli, Player of the Match:
Sorry for stealing it (the player of the Match award) from Jaddu. I wanted to make a big contribution. Have made fifties in World Cups, wanted to finish it off this time. (Free hits to start off) I was telling Shubman that even if you dream about this situation, you go back to sleep. It was a dream start. It just calms you down. The pitch was good, allowed me to play my game – hit the gaps and find the boundaries whenever I could. Great atmosphere in the dressing room. The spirit is there for everyone to see. You need to create some momentum in the changing room to come out and play like this. Special feeling to play in front of such crowds.
