Australia vs England 4th Test Day 1 Highlights – Jan 5, 2022

Joe Root has his say: “We’d have batted as well. Looks like a reasonably good wicket but there is some live grass and some overheads to work with. I want us to keep working really hard at all facets of the game. It’s important that we keep believing and understand that things do change in time. We’ve got to be strong and resilient and take those chances. [Batting] The most important thing is clarity in your own game.

It’s a game about outscoring the opposition. You’ve got to be able to bat for long periods and to put some pressure back on. [Only one change?] I don’t think we need too much change now. What we need is the guys who have got the opportunities to step up and take their chances. [Broad?] He’s always fired up to play Test cricket. [Unfinished business at SCG?] Hopefully I can get through the whole Test match to start with… I enjoy playing here and looking forward to the opportunity.”

Pat Cummins says: it wasn’t the hardest decision. “[Bowling first?] It’s a bit tempting with the clouds but the SCG has always been a bat-first wicket and I don’t see it being different here. The crowd has been great. [Pink Test] It’s huge every year. It shows the power of sport. We love playing in it and it’s a great legacy. [Khawaja in] It’s brilliant. Ozzie’s played a lot of cricket here, last Ashes he got 170-odd here. He’ll slot straight in. [Boland?] Hopefully more of the same. Hoping Joshy will be right for Hobart. [Pitch?] There’s a bit more grass than we’d normally expect here but it looks a really good batting wicket.”
