Yasir Ali: “It’s really great to play for my country and to perform. Tamim Bhai and Litton did the hard part. The shine was gone, and the pitch looked good. How Shakib Bhai batted made it really easy for me. I was prepared for the short stuff. I knew if I could come over that phase, I could come out on top. My favorite shot was hitting Ngidi straight. It is a pretty good score. We also have to bowl well because they are a strong side.”
Post Match Presentation
Bavuma: “It was hard after conceding 180 in the last 20 overs. There are a lot of conversations for us to have with the bowling unit. There was a sense of control after the first ten overs. Normally, we generally know what we want to do; we are good at adapting to the conditions. We took longer to do that. We were happy chasing 270-280. Those extra 40 runs were the difference in the end. When you are chasing over 300, you need someone to get a hundred and someone to support them. My dismissal was an untimely one. With Rassie and David in, we were in with a shout. Conversations with the batters also need to be had. There was variable [bounce] with the back of the length. They showed character.”
ICC Rankings Test, ODI & T20I
Shakib Al Hasan is the Player of the Match: “When I spent 7-8 balls, I thought it was a good wicket. We had to score around 300. We got a good start through Litton and Tamim. We had to capitalize with the old ball. Yasir batted really well. He and my partnership was important. A lot of credit goes to him. As soon as the shine was gone, the ball wasn’t doing as much as in the first ten overs. We had to take calculated risks, and it paid off today. It was important to go after the bowlers, otherwise, we would have ended with 260-270. We knew Rabada would bowl at the end, and so had to bring him early.”
Tamim Iqbal has a smile on his face, and why not? “It’s a big win for us. Very proud of the way the team played. Yasir’s innings was really special. Those small things – from Mehidy with the bat, and Mahmudullah – everything matters. It’s a big thing for us – our fast bowlers are doing well and winning games for us. But during the last two years, the fast bowlers have been bowling brilliantly. You need a character like Mehidy in every team. After going for 40 off four overs, he said, ‘Give me the ball, I’ll change it for you. It is not going to work always, and I am happy with his confidence. We can win the series. We have to give ourselves every chance. They will be eager to bounce back.”
