The visitor team Sri Lankan bowlers struggled hard in their first bowling innings. The home team Australian batsmen batted so well. Australia scored 534/5d in 132 overs in their first innings. MS Harris the opener of the team has not survived for so long and out with just 11 runs. UT Khawaja has gone with duck and M Labuschagne scored just 6 runs. Australia was three down at 28 but after that 4th wicket was dismissed at 336.

Sri Lanka faced 43 overs in their first innings and scored 123 with the loss of three wickets. FDM Karunaratne retired hurt at 46, HDRL Thirimanne scored 45 and out, LD Chandimal (c) scored 15 runs, BKG Mendis contributed six runs. MA Starc, PJ Cummins and NM Lyon all three of them took one wicket each of them till stumps day two.
